Russian Drone Destroys Sorting Line at Nova Poshta's Odesa Terminal

Russian forces hit Nova Poshta’s innovation terminal in the Odesa region with a strike drone overnight Aug. 30-31, destroying the automated sorting line at the heart of the facility, Ukraine’s largest private delivery operator said. Nova Poshta is Ukraine’s largest private postal and delivery operator. The key sorting line was destroyed in the impact. This was European-standard equipment which, unfortunately, cannot be restored.” the company said in a post on its official Telegram channel. All employees at the site survived, and none were injured, the post mentioned. A fire that broke out after the impact was extinguished by more than 30 firefighters, the State Emergency Service’s Odesa regional directorate reported. Odesa Regional Military Administration Head Oleh Kiper wrote on Telegram that no information on casualties had been received, with all key services operating at the site. “Despite the attack, Nova Poshta continues to operate. We have already activated backup logistics schemes,” the company said, adding that customers can check the status of their shipments in its mobile app and on its official website. The Odesa site is one of the eight largest innovation terminals in Nova Poshta’s network, processing between 20,000 and 50,000 parcels an hour, according to the company’s data on its website. The operator runs 110 terminals and depots across Ukraine. Sixth strike on Nova Poshta facilities in August alone The strike came as part of an overnight assault in which Russia launched one Kh-59 guided missile and 121 attack drones, mostly jet-powered Shahed types and decoys, according to the Air Force. Air defenses downed around 96 drones by 8 a.m., with impacts recorded at 11 locations and debris at eight more. It was at least the sixth reported Russian strike on Nova Poshta facilities in August alone. On Aug. 28, strikes destroyed the company’s robotized sorting depot in Sviatopetrivske, Kyiv region, a day after guided bombs hit its Sumy terminal, damaging three trucks. On Aug. 16, a drone wounded four people at a Nova Poshta warehouse inside an Epicentr shopping center on the outskirts of Odesa. On Aug. 5, a missile strike leveled the company’s Kyiv sorting center, killing three people and injuring eight – the deadliest attack on the operator this month – and on Aug. 4 a drone destroyed its cargo branch in Pryluky, Chernihiv region.
