Russian forces launched a massive overnight drone attack on Ukraine, sending 135 Shahed-type and other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) toward the country and striking civilian areas in Sumy and Kharkiv regions.In Sumy city, the attack damaged residential buildings and civilian infrastructure and injured six people, including a 16-year-old girl. One of the strikes caused a fire in a two-story residential building. Fires also broke out at several other locations.The threat of additional Russian strikes complicated the work of rescuers, according to Kryvosheyenko.Six people were injured in the attack: a 16-year-old girl, four women aged 36, 39, 50 and 66, and a 35-year-old man. All are receiving medical treatment.Nine residential buildings were damaged at four locations across the city. Damage included broken windows and balcony frames. A shop, gas-station infrastructure, sections of roadway and several vehicles were also damaged. The attack destroyed and damaged several private homes and sparked a fire covering approximately 400 square meters. Five residential buildings and vehicles caught fire.Rescuers recovered the bodies of two women from the rubble.Emergency crews are extinguishing the fire and carrying out search-and-rescue operations. Municipal services and equipment from a local agricultural enterprise are also assisting at the scene.Ukraine downs 107 Russian dronesAccording to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched 135 Shahed-type attack drones, including jet-powered variants, as well as Gerber and Parody decoy drones, beginning at 6 p.m. on Aug. 20.The attack was countered by Ukrainian aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare and unmanned-systems units, as well as mobile fire groups.As of 8 a.m. Friday, Ukrainian air defenses had shot down or suppressed 107 Russian drones across northern, southern and eastern Ukraine, according to preliminary data.The Air Force said 27 attack UAVs reached 16 locations, while debris from downed drones fell at three additional sites.
