Russia Reports Contaminated Dog Vaccine Linked to 169 Deaths

The Moscow City Prosecutor’s Office has announced a probe into a batch of contaminated dog vaccines in Russia that reportedly killed over a hundred canines in the summer.As reported by The Moscow Times, the office said on Tuesday that the vaccine certificates were likely forged, following an investigation it conducted with Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance in late September.JOIN US ON TELEGRAMFollow our coverage of the war on the @Kyivpost_official.“Based on the results of an investigation by the Moscow Prosecutor’s Office, a criminal case has been opened for the use of a knowingly forged quality certificate for a batch of a veterinary drug,” the office wrote in its Tuesday Telegram update.Interfax Russia said the company involved was Vetbiokhim, citing its own law enforcement sources, before adding that authorities registered over 300 complaints in relation to medical complications after receiving the vaccine, including deaths.The Moscow Times reported that at least 169 canines died after receiving the vaccine, primarily in the Yaroslavl region bordering Moscow.The outlets attributed the cases to the Multican-8 vaccine made by Vetbiokhim, with RBC Russia noting that the vaccines were contaminated with fatal Aujeszky’s disease virus.Vetbiokhim acknowledged the investigation in a comment to RBC Russia but said it’s cooperating with law enforcement.
