The female courier may have been unaware she was carrying an explosive device capable of being detonated remotely. Another 20 people were wounded in the blast, which rocked the foundations of the Stalin-era high-rise overlooking Moscow’s Kudrinskaya Square. Chayko was appointed commander of the Russian Aerospace Forces in May 2026. Ukraine has designated him a wanted “war criminal” over his alleged role in commanding Russian troops responsible for the 2022 Bucha massacre. Russian forces under his command are accused of carrying out mass rapes, torture and executions in the town, just west of Kyiv, during the opening weeks of Putin’s full-scale invasion. More than 450 civilians were killed in what is widely regarded as one of the worst atrocities of the war. It comes as another senior Russian commander was reportedly killed by a Ukrainian FPV drone. Major General Dmitry Mikhailov, 39, one of Putin’s youngest generals, is said to have suffered fatal injuries while travelling in an armoured Tigr vehicle. He had allegedly ignored repeated warnings about the threat posed by Ukrainian drones before entering the combat zone. Mikhailov has also been accused of war crimes during Russia‘s occupation of the Izium region, with Ukrainian investigators naming him among those responsible. More than a dozen Russian generals have been killed since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Comment now
