Russia Burns Thousands of Ukrainian Books in Strikes on Multiple Warehouses

Russia destroyed multiple warehouses storing books for major Ukrainian publishers during an overnight attack on Aug. 28, damaging or destroying thousands of books and disrupting order deliveries, publishing companies said. A warehouse used by the Ukrainian publishing house A-ba-ba-ha-la-ma-ha was destroyed in the attack, the company’s director, Ivan Malkovych, said.JOIN US ON TELEGRAMFollow our coverage of the war on the @Kyivpost_official. “We kept silent when, several times and in different locations, the Russians destroyed our books and blew out windows and doors at our main warehouse,” Malkovych wrote on Facebook. “But tonight, the warehouse from which we directly shipped our publications was destroyed.” He said the destruction would likely cause problems with fulfilling customer orders in the coming days. “Many of our beautiful books, worth a substantial amount, burned down,” Malkovych said, adding that the photographs from the scene were too “apocalyptic” to publish. Another warehouse in Sviatopetrivske, in the Kyiv region, was also destroyed during the overnight Russian attack, with thousands of books belonging to Ukrainian publishers burned. The fire destroyed products belonging to publishing house Vivat and its partners, bookstores Readeat and Book.ua, which had also stored their inventory at the facility. Vivat said it would continue operating despite the loss. Its physical bookstores remain open, while its e-books and audiobooks remain available to readers. Readeat said it had temporarily suspended order shipments while it assesses the damage and works out how to resume deliveries. The attacks came as Russia launched a large-scale overnight drone assault across Ukraine, with strikes reported in several regions.
