Russia has accumulated about 6,200 Geran kamikaze drones of various versions for large-scale attacks against Ukraine, according to Ukrainian military intelligence. Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) provided the estimate to the Ukrainian defense news outlet Militarnyi, saying the figure reflected Russia’s stockpile as of August 2026.JOIN US ON TELEGRAMFollow our coverage of the war on the @Kyivpost_official. Limited production capacity prevents Russian forces from maintaining the highest rate of drone launches continuously, the intelligence agency said. Moscow therefore has to build up large reserves before carrying out particularly intensive attacks. During Russia’s largest strikes, between 600 and 1,000 drones could be launched in a single attack, according to HUR. When Russian forces are replenishing their stockpiles, they typically launch about 150 to 200 drones at a time. That number can reach approximately 300 in some attacks. Russia has set new records for the number of drones launched against Ukraine this year, using between 6,000 and 6,500 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in some months, Militarnyi reported. The reported stockpile could allow Moscow to conduct several large-scale attacks, although the precise number would depend on how many drones Russia deploys in each barrage and whether it continues manufacturing additional drones during that period. The term “Geran” covers several Russian versions of the Iranian-designed Shahed kamikaze drone. Russian forces use the drone in attacks against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure, often launching them alongside missiles and other types of drones in an attempt to overwhelm air defenses.
