Russell Watson reveals ‘miraculous’ health news after battling two brain tumours saying it’s ‘a one in a million chance’

RUSSELL Watson has revealed his “miraculous” health news after battling two brain tumours. The opera singer, 59, was first diagnosed 20 years ago, after suffering excruciating headaches. Russell Watson has given fans an update on his health battle Credit: BBC The singer was previously diagnosed with two brain tumours which required surgery Credit: PA:Press Association Speaking on The One Show last night, Russell said that his pituitary gland, which was thought to have been irreparably damaged by the cancers, had actually made an almost complete recovery. “Basically, I have to take steroids to stay alive, so I did a bit of research, rang my endocrinologist, and told them I was really struggling with keeping weight off, and is there a test I can do to find out whether I am taking too much of the steroids,” the singer told old hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp. Sign up for the TV newsletter Thank you! “In a nutshell, she rang me up and said that this is like a one-in-a-million chance, but you have started to produce your own cortisol, which is the body’s stress hormones.” Continuing, Russell said: “So I’ve cut my steroids in half, I went back for another test this week, and I have been told I can cut those in half… it may end up, at the end of it, that I might not need to take the steroids anymore.” Read more on Russell Watson The singer then added: “I am really pleased. By 2007, after experiencing symptoms including a severe deterioration of vision, it was discovered Russell had a regrowth of the tumour with bleeding on his brain. Most read in News TV This time, he underwent an extensive rehabilitation programme which included 25 sessions of radiotherapy, before getting the all clear.
