Rush hour chaos on major motorway after lorry blaze closes lanes & damages road leaving drivers stuck in traffic

NewsUK News A MAJOR motorway has ground to a halt after a lorry burst into flames. The M6 northbound, between junctions 4A and five in Birmingham, has two lanes closed after the HGV caught fire. Drivers faced 90 minute delays and congestion stretched back nine miles. Travellers heading to Birmingham Airport have also been warned of long delays. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! The blaze has been extinguished and there were no casualties or injuries. Police, fire crews and a vehicle recovery team remain at the scene while the road is cleared. A spokesperson for National Highways said: “Lanes 1,2 & 3 (of 4) remain closed on the M6 northbound between J4A M42 junction & J5 Sutton Coldfield following a HGV fire which resulted in damaging the road. “West Midlands Fire continue to work on scene. Current delays of up to 20 minutes on approach. 2 miles of congestion.” This comes after a London bus erupted into flames earlier today sending black smoke pouring into the sky. Dramatic footage shows the rear of the single-decker spewing heavy smoke on a residential street in Sutton, South London.
