Ruby ‘dead’ as Joe buries her in horrific Emmerdale end

Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) warned everyone that the revenge he’d get on Caleb Miligan (William Ash) and Ruby Miligan (Beth Cordingly) would be dark and horrific in Emmerdale – and he certainly wasn’t exaggerating. Last month, Caleb and Ruby helped Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) leave the village with Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) and their children. At the time, Dawn believed that Joe attacked Billy and put him in hospital. The plan was going well, but things changed when Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) found Dawn packing up her car. Graham questioned how Billy knew that Joe attacked him, if the hit happened from behind. Dawn was still able to escape Emmerdale, but Graham’s comments were playing on her mind as she drove out of the neighbourhood with Billy, Clemmie, Evan and Lucas. She confronted Billy, and then left him at the side of the road once he revealed that he had lied, and Joe didn’t put him in hospital. Dawn arrived at the wedding marquee in the hope she’d still be able to tie the knot with Joe, but disaster struck when Jimmy King (Nick Miles) crashed his car through the tent. Jimmy lost his life shortly after the collision, while Dawn died in hospital. Joe has been spiralling in the aftermath of losing the love of his life. He’s pushed Graham and Kim Tate (Claire King) away, refused to have anything to do with Dawn’s children, and initially said that he would be the only person at her funeral. Thankfully, Joe saw a tiny bit of sense and said that Kim, Graham, Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham), Billy, and his children could attend Dawn’s farewell. While Dawn’s goodbye was emotional, Joe wasn’t entirely engaged as he was very focused on what he was going to do after the funeral. In the middle of a field beside a freshly dug grave, Joe was on his knees speaking about how he was meant to grow old with Dawn, but the ‘lifetime of love’ was taken from him. It looked as though he was saying his own private farewell to Dawn, but it was quickly revealed that Joe wasn’t next to his partner’s grave. He kicked the dirt and walked away. We know from spoilers for the ITV soap that Ruby will wake up in the coffin and desperately call for help. However, she soon loses her strength as the air apparently starts to run out.
