Please try againIndia and the US agreed to “expand defense trade and co-production” including anti-tank missiles, infantry combat vehicles and surveillance aircraft at a bilateral meeting between Trump and Modi in February 2025. While India has moved ahead in processing the purchase of additional surveillance aircraft, progress in other projects has slowed.Speaking at the ASEAN-India Foreign Ministers’ meeting on Wednesday, Jaishankar said India is looking to strengthen ties with Southeast Asian nations to help build more resilient supply chains. He added that an increasingly uncertain global environment can’t be managed by any one entity.“No single nation or even grouping can deal with it on its own,” he said, calling for closer cooperation between India and the 10-member Southeast Asian bloc.The Asean, a 10-member bloc comprising Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, is central to New Delhi’s Act East policy and has become a key economic and strategic partner for India. The group is viewed as critical to efforts to diversify supply chains, boost trade and strengthen economic resilience in response to rising geopolitical tensions.
