Rs 1.07 crore diamond-studded gold bracelet seized from Turkish duo at Delhi airport

(Photo: ANI)Customs officials have seized a diamond-studded gold bracelet worth more than Rs 1.07 crore and around 15 kg of suspected marijuana valued at about Rs 5.25 crore in two separate cases at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, officials said on Sunday.In one case, two Turkish nationals arriving from Istanbul were arrested after officers recovered the bracelet during a baggage and personal search. In the other, a Malaysian passenger arriving from Kuala Lumpur was arrested after suspected marijuana was found in her trolley bag.According to an official statement, Airport Customs Preventive officers intercepted the two Turkish nationals at Terminal 3 on August 19. A detailed baggage and personal search led to the seizure of a gold bracelet studded with diamonds.The statement said the bracelet was made of 750-purity gold, weighed 87.5 grams and contained around 10 grams of diamonds, equivalent to about 50 carats. Its provisional value was assessed at Rs 1,07,86,301. The bracelet was seized under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962, and both passengers were arrested under Section 104 of the Act. In the second case, on September 4, customs officers acting on profiling intercepted a Malaysian passenger who had arrived from Kuala Lumpur at Terminal 3, another statement said. She was diverted at the Green Channel for examination of her trolley bag, which led to the recovery of 30 polythene pouches containing suspected marijuana.The suspected substance weighed 15,015.5 grams net and was valued at around Rs 5.25 crore, the statement added. The passenger was arrested under Section 43(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and the suspected contraband was seized under Section 43(A) of the Act. Officials said a case has been lodged under Sections 8, 20, 23 and 29 of the NDPS Act.
