Its arrival also marks an important milestone for the Himalayan nameplate, with 2026 completing 10 years since the original Himalayan was launched in India.Himalayan 440: What is it?The upcoming motorcycle is expected to be a spiritual successor to the discontinued Himalayan 411. However, rather than directly replacing the Himalayan 450, it is likely to occupy a more accessible position in Royal Enfield’s ADV range.The Himalayan 440 is expected to focus on simplicity, touring ability and ease of ownership. This would distinguish it from the Himalayan 450, which features a more sophisticated chassis, liquid-cooled engine, ride-by-wire throttle, TFT instrument cluster and electronic rider aids. The new motorcycle is likely to share several components with the Scram 440, although Royal Enfield is expected to make changes to suit its adventure-touring role. These could include revised ergonomics, longer-travel suspension, improved wind protection and a more touring-oriented riding position.Himalayan 440 design and featuresThe Himalayan 440 is expected to have a design closer to the older Himalayan 411 than the more modern-looking Himalayan 450. Spy images suggest a tall stance, windscreen, circular mirrors and a rugged overall appearance. The motorcycle will reportedly feature a twin-pod instrument console. The main circular unit combines an analogue speedometer with a digital display, while a second pod houses Royal Enfield’s Tripper navigation system. The digital display is expected to provide information such as fuel level, trip meters, odometer, gear position and other riding data.The setup appears to be closely related to the instrumentation used on the Scram 440, reinforcing the component sharing between the two motorcycles.The test and pre-launch motorcycles have also been seen with conventional wire-spoke wheels. A 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel combination is expected, along with long-travel suspension and disc brakes. A switchable rear ABS system could also be offered, although the final variant-wise specifications will be revealed at launch.Same 443cc engine as the Scram 440Power is expected to come from Royal Enfield’s 443cc LS440 engine, the same unit used in the Scram 440. The air- and oil-cooled, single-cylinder motor produces 25.4bhp and 34Nm and is paired with a six-speed gearbox.Royal Enfield could retune the engine for the Himalayan 440 to suit its adventure-touring character, although major mechanical changes are unlikely. The focus is expected to remain on tractability and everyday usability rather than outright performance.Himalayan 440 expected price and rivalsThe Himalayan 440 is expected to be positioned between the Scram 440 and Himalayan 450 in Royal Enfield’s line-up.
