The new entry-level adventure motorcycle will sit below the Himalayan 450 in the company’s line-up and could bring a more affordable option to the Himalayan family.The Himalayan 440 will use Royal Enfield’s 443cc LS440 engine, which is already offered with the Scram 440. The rear section, however, remains visible and appears to follow the familiar Himalayan 411 design. The bike features a compact tail lamp, short-stalk indicators, a rear mudguard and a dual-purpose rear tyre.The motorcycle seen in the images is equipped with conventional wire-spoke wheels. There had been speculation that Royal Enfield could offer cross-spoke wheels, similar to the Himalayan 450, particularly on higher variants. However, whether tubeless-compatible cross-spoke wheels will be offered on any version remains to be confirmed. The overall design is expected to be closer to the older Himalayan 411 than the larger Himalayan 450. The main circular unit combines an analogue speedometer with a small digital display, which is expected to show information such as the odometer, trip meters, fuel level, gear position and engine-related data. A separate circular pod sits alongside it and houses Royal Enfield’s Tripper navigation system. The setup is expected to offer Bluetooth connectivity, smartphone integration and turn-by-turn navigation.This is notably different from the more elaborate console that was offered on the Himalayan 411. The older motorcycle used a multi-pod layout, with separate analogue displays for functions such as the tachometer and fuel gauge, while also offering a digital compass.The new setup appears to be closely related to the instrumentation used on the Scram 440, reinforcing the mechanical and component sharing between the two motorcycles.Himalayan 440 engine and hardwarePower will come from Royal Enfield’s 443cc LS440 single-cylinder engine. The air- and oil-cooled motor produces 25.4bhp and 34Nm and is paired with a six-speed gearbox.The Himalayan 440 is also expected to share several mechanical components with the Scram 440, although its suspension and chassis setup should be tailored towards adventure riding. A 21-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel combination is expected, along with long-travel suspension and disc brakes.A switchable rear ABS system could also be offered, although Royal Enfield is yet to confirm the final specifications and variant-wise equipment.Himalayan 440 price and positioningThe biggest advantage of the Himalayan 440 will be its price. The Himalayan 450 currently costs between Rs 3.08 lakh and Rs 3.40 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it firmly in the premium ADV category. The new 440 is expected to undercut it significantly, with an estimated starting price of around Rs 2.50 lakh (ex-showroom).This would give Royal Enfield an entry point into the Himalayan range for buyers who want the adventure-bike design and touring ability without stretching to the Himalayan 450.The Himalayan 440 is expected to be officially launched in India on September 4.
