While it retains the design, riding position and adventure-focused character of the original Himalayan 411, Royal Enfield has made several mechanical changes, including a larger engine, a six-speed gearbox and upgraded braking hardware.Himalayan 440: DesignVisually, the Himalayan 440 stays close to the original Himalayan’s rugged and functional design. Royal Enfield has retained the familiar adventure motorcycle proportions and upright riding position, while making targeted changes to the mechanical package.The motorcycle has an 800mm seat height, which should make it relatively accessible for riders of different heights. It also gets a 15-litre fuel tank, allowing for longer distances between fuel stops. Royal Enfield has also improved the motorcycle’s luggage capability, with the Himalayan 440 designed to accommodate additional touring equipment.Features on the Himalayan 440The Himalayan 440 gets a new LED headlamp, while the instrument cluster follows a digital-analogue layout. Other features include Tripper navigation and a USB Type-C charging port. The motorcycle is also compatible with a range of Royal Enfield accessories aimed at improving its touring and off-road capability.Royal Enfield Himalayan 440: Engine and gearboxThe biggest change is under the skin, with the Himalayan 440 powered by a new 443cc, single-cylinder, long-stroke engine. It produces 25.4bhp at 6,250rpm and 34Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. Royal Enfield says the updated engine also offers improved NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) compared to the earlier motorcycle.The engine is paired with a new six-speed gearbox. The revised transmission ratios are designed to make low-speed riding easier, while the additional sixth gear is intended to make highway riding and long-distance touring more comfortable.Himalayan 440: Chassis and suspensionThe motorcycle continues with a half-duplex split-cradle frame, while suspension duties are handled by 41mm telescopic front forks and a linkage-type rear monoshock.The front suspension offers 200mm of travel, while the rear gets 180mm of wheel travel. The Himalayan 440 rides on a 21-inch spoke wheel at the front and a 17-inch spoke wheel at the rear.Ground clearance stands at 220mm, while Royal Enfield says the motorcycle’s low centre of gravity is aimed at improving confidence across different surfaces, including rocky trails, slush and snow.Himalayan 440: BrakesBraking hardware has also been upgraded. The Himalayan 440 gets a 300mm front disc with a two-piston floating caliper featuring larger pistons. At the rear, there is a 240mm disc.The motorcycle comes with dual-channel ABS, with the system being switchable to give riders greater control when riding off-road.Himalayan 440: AccessoriesRoyal Enfield will offer a range of accessories for the new motorcycle, including hard panniers, a top box, touring seats, adventure handguards, engine guards and other protection equipment.The Adventure Engine Guards can be paired with Sliders for additional and configurable protection.
