The company has received a large number of bookings since deliveries opened earlier this month, with the waiting period now understood to have stretched to around six months.Himalayan 440 bookings halted amid strong demandThe Himalayan 440 was launched in India on September 4, 2026, at a starting price of Rs 2.29 lakh (ex-showroom). The motorcycle marked the return of the original Himalayan formula, but with a larger engine and a number of mechanical updates.The strong response has resulted in the waiting period increasing to around six months. Royal Enfield has therefore decided to temporarily stop taking fresh bookings instead of continuing to add customers to an already long waiting list.The company is expected to use the period to increase production and bring the waiting period down. According to our understanding, Royal Enfield does not want customers to be left waiting for an unspecified duration before receiving their motorcycles. No price hike planned when bookings reopenThe Himalayan 440's Rs 2.29 lakh starting price is one of its biggest selling points. It makes the motorcycle one of the more affordable full-size adventure motorcycles available in India and undercuts the Himalayan 450 by a considerable margin.Royal Enfield is understood to have no plans to increase the price of the Himalayan 440 when bookings reopen. The motorcycle is therefore expected to continue at its current starting price, although Royal Enfield has not specified when bookings will resume.Himalayan 440 gets new 443cc engine The Himalayan 440 is powered by a new 443cc, single-cylinder, long-stroke engine producing 25.4bhp at 6,250rpm and 34Nm at 4,000rpm. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox, giving it an additional ratio over the five-speed unit used by the original Himalayan 411.The motorcycle retains the familiar adventure-focused design and upright riding position of the Himalayan 411. It gets a 21-inch front wheel and 17-inch rear wheel, along with 200mm of front suspension travel and 180mm at the rear.Ground clearance stands at 220mm, while braking is handled by a 300mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc. Dual-channel ABS is standard, with the system offering a switchable mode for off-road riding.The Himalayan 440 is available in Sela Black, Mustang Brown and Nelong White.
