14/20Updated October 26, 2026,first published November 11, 2024Rowlee DiningContemporary$$Classically styled estate dining in Orange, with a deep love for the region.Set by the old stables at Rowlee Wines, this winery diner does a fine line in seasonal produce, drawing on local producers – Fardon & Sons Organics, Robanco Meats – to craft menus designed to pair with estate wines. There are worse ways to start than by sinking into the smartly dressed dining room, the floor laid with cork tiles, the room divided with soft curtains, and splitting a couple of slices of sourdough plated with sweet-savoury malt butter, then throwing back some Sydney rocks dressed with mignonette jelly. But then the roasted cauliflower veloute, retro as it is, makes a compelling case, too. Pretty prawn agnolotti is the pick for pasta, even if it lacks a little depth around the edges, and the hand-cut beef tartare twists things just enough. It’s hard to argue that pressing Kinross Station lamb shoulder into a bar is the best way to serve it, but the scotch fillet looks good, and the single vineyard arneis is one of many good reasons to stick around for a tasting at the cellar door. Good to know: The pretty Garden Bar offers wood-fired pizza, cocktails and live Sunday sessions. Good Food reviews are booked anonymously and paid independently.
