Ross Chastain recalls infamous fight while reacting to Bubba Wallace-Ty Gibbs dust-up

Ross Chastain hasn’t had a good post-race confrontation in a while. He was trying to figure out what was happening between Bubba Wallace, whom Chastain refers to by his government name, Darrell, and Ty Gibbs after Sunday night’s race in Atlanta. Following the race, Wallace fired this off in post-race interviews: “We’ll be fine. He had the opportunity to give there a lot, and he didn’t do that. So, when I told him that, he quickly went on the defense and said, ‘Don’t block.’ “When you hit me square in the bumper, it means you just ran right into me. The block was clean. So, yeah, that’s Toyota teammates. Don’t race very well together.” Gibbs gave his version: “Yeah, I went to tell him I’m sorry because he cleared himself, and then unfortunately, he showed a lot of disrespect. “I don’t know. Yeah, seems like it didn’t really work out for him, but I just tried to help him out there at the end, push him to win, but it didn’t happen.” Chastain weighs in On his Ag to Asphalt podcast, Chastain gave his view of the confrontation. His takeaway, he would’ve been irritated if he were in either driver’s seat. “I just saw the on-track stuff after that,” said Chastain. “When I looked back through the race, yeah, I could be mad at both guys if I’m the other guy. “Like if I’m Ty, I’m like, ‘You were over two lanes up and hung a left because of a tight moment on entry’. So if I’m Ty, I’m like ‘you just turned left.’ And if I’m Darrell (Wallace), I’m like, ‘You ran me over.’ “So, it’s just based on which side you’re on for me. I would be mad that you’re mad at me if I’m Ty. And if I’m Darrell, I’m like, ‘Man, you ran me over.’” Reflecting back to Kansas As Chastain was talking about potentially walking down pit road for a confrontation, his video editor overlaid his dust-up with Noah Gragson in 2023 at Kansas. Gragson was upset that Chastain doored him. And then the following transpired … Chastain said he hopes his days of getting in fights are over. He joked that it never ends well. “But I’m also probably not going down there to say anything. It never goes good. “It feels good when you’re walking down there like, ‘Oh, I’m angry.’ And then. Hopefully, my days of getting physical are over. Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the nose. “I’ve learned that the hard way.” Chastain closed by bringing it back to Bubba Wallace and Ty Gibbs. “They’ll talk that out. They have a lot more to gain by working together than they do apart.”
