Rockstar will take down videos with GTA 6 story spoilers even after launch

| Games News Writer Published November 4, 2026 1:46pm Updated November 4, 2026 1:46pm A spoiler-free zone (Rockstar) If you’re planning on sharing GTA 6 spoilers in clips after the game’s launch, you’ll face the wrath of Rockstar. While we now know a fair amount about the open world of GTA 6, from the extensive amount of animals to its dynamic weather systems, there is still a lot of secrecy around the game’s story. We know the thrust of GTA 6’s narrative focuses on protagonists Jason and Lucia, a romantic couple with a history of crime, who want to start a fresh life together. While there have been plenty of leaks, strangely no story spoilers have been outed in the run up to its launch on November 19. While it’s typical for spoilers to run rampant once a game does come out, Rockstar is bringing down the iron fist for GTA 6. In response to a question on Rockstar’s support site, about posting ‘copyrighted material’ from the studio’s titles to YouTube and other video sharing sites (which was last updated in January 2025, and recirculated online ahead of launch), the developer shared ‘guidelines’ on what would result in a takedown notice from the company. As part of these guidelines, which applies to all Rockstar titles, any pre-release footage will be taken down, which encompasses in-game clips leaked prior to release date and ‘early unboxing’ videos. Additionally, any videos ‘showing the ending of the game, an edited combination of cut scenes and/or in-game plot dialogue, or any other big reveal in the story’ will be removed by Rockstar. However, you can ‘show cut scenes as part of a larger playthrough’, as in a longer, narrated Let’s Plays, but ‘isolated videos of the game’s cinematics will be removed’. Considering GTA 6 is expected to be the biggest entertainment launch of all time, it seems like a mammoth task to stop everyone sharing story clips in the aftermath. However, many people buying the game might not even finish the story, as it’s simply a vessel for open world chaos for some. Other stipulations apply to any video showing ‘in-game entertainment’ in isolation, aka ‘TV shows or comedy performances’ within the game’s world will be removed. Any footage ‘encouraging cheating’ in online titles or ‘promoting modifications/ports’ will also be targeted. While these might simply be scare tactics from Rockstar, it’s going to have to manage a lot of potential spoiler videos based on early pre-order figures. According to analytics firm Sensor Tower, GTA 6 has already generated over $750 million (£555 million) in pre-order sales, with 7.71 million copies sold, as of November 3, 2026. It’s estimated 74% of these sales are on PlayStation 5, compared to Xbox Series X/S, which aligns with prior data on the console divide.
