(Photo by C Brandon/Redferns)RedfernsBy Brian Linder | blinder@pennlive.comRock and Roll Hall of Famer Glenn Hughes is retiring from touring and live performances on his doctor’s advice, and he is headed for an important surgery.The legendary performer shared the news recently in a statement on social media.“Glenn will have to undergo heart surgery and has made the difficult decision to step back from live performances for the foreseeable future,” a statement on his Facebook page read. “This past year, I’ve had some health issues,” Hughes said in a statement. “The results from numerous MRIs, CT scans, and an echocardiogram have alerted my medical team that I need another open-heart surgery. I really have no option and no choice as health is my number one priority. Grateful to have been chosen with a life full with the fight of music. Thank you for walking beside me. Your friend Glenn.”Hughes has had a remarkable career that began in 1967.The 74-year-old is a former singer and bassist with Deep Purple, Trapeze, Black Sabbath, the Dead Daisies and Black Country Communion.He first rose to fame as the frontman for Trapeze from 1973 through 1982. Ultimate Classic Rock reported that Hughes was scheduled to play with the Purple Daisies on Oct. 2 in California, but the show has been cancelled.
