Robert Pattinson to Receive 2026 American Cinematheque Award

The American Cinematheque Awards Gala is officially back on with actor Robert Pattinson, star of several films from 2026, from “Primetime” and “The Drama,” to “The Odyssey” and “Dune: Part Three,” as the 40th recipient. The milestone celebration will now take place on Tuesday, February 9, 2027, at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. Previously, the 2026 edition of the fundraiser had been set for November 2, with “Project Hail Mary” star Ryan Gosling accepting the award, but the incoming Marvel Cinematic Universe actor had to drop out of the event a month before due to a scheduling conflict. Now, prolific actor Pattinson will be the one to join a roster of honorees that include filmmakers and performers like Eddie Murphy, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Jodie Foster, Denzel Washington, Nicole Kidman, George Clooney, and most importantly Michael B. Jordan, the most recent American Cinematheque Award recipient, who would go on to win the Oscar for Best Actor shortly afterwards for his performance in “Sinners.” According to the organization, the prestigious American Cinematheque Award “recognizes extraordinary artists whose talent, vision, and contributions have made a lasting impact on cinema. Their passion and filmography not only exemplify excellence in filmmaking but also reflect the cinematic artistry and breadth of American Cinematheque’s programming, which bridges film history to its future and celebrates the theatrical experience.” This upcoming milestone 40th presentation will mark an especially meaningful moment in the American Cinematheque’s history, celebrating both the remarkable legacy of the award and the organization’s enduring contributions to cinema. Explaining why Pattinson would be receiving the award, American Cinematheque Board Chair Rick Nicita said in an official statement, “Rob has built an extraordinary career defined by his unwavering dedication to his craft, fearless creative choices, and remarkable versatility as an actor. From his collaborations with some of cinema’s most visionary filmmakers to his ability to captivate audiences in major studio blockbusters, Rob has continually challenged expectations and demonstrated the power of great storytelling.” “Rob is the perfect choice to receive this award and join our esteemed list of artists who not only love cinema but continue to have a deep impact on our industry,” added Nicita. “We are thrilled that his filming schedule has allowed us the opportunity to recognize his exceptional contributions to film and we look forward to celebrating his continued achievements.” The American Cinematheque Awards Gala serves as an annual fundraiser for the non-profit organization, supporting its year-round programming at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, Los Feliz 3 Theatre in Los Feliz, and Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
