Robert Pattinson Says ‘The Batman 2’ Is ‘So Ambitious’ and a ‘Different Take’ on the Franchise: ‘It’s a Real Left Turn From the First’

Robert Pattinson is opening up about “The Batman: Part II” — and how it is a totally “different take” on the franchise than the first film was. “It’s so ambitious. I mean, I sort of said the other day on something that the first one was a different take on a Batman movie, and this one is another,” he told Collider in a recent interview. “It’s a real left turn from the first one, but somehow it keeps elements of the kind of feel of it. But it just feels really ambitious, and I’m excited to see how it turns out.” Set to hit theaters on Feb. 18, 2028, “The Batman Part II” is Matt Reeves’ follow-up to 2022’s “The Batman,” in which audiences were first introduced to the “Primetime” star as Bruce Wayne. Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan will star alongside Pattinson in the film, along with supporting cast members Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch. Still, the film’s plot details remain under wraps. Popular on Variety Variety previously reported that Reeves completed the sequel’s script in June 2025, though the film was originally announced in 2022 — just a month after the first film debuted in theaters. When “The Batman Part II” premieres, it will have been six years since the first did. DC Studios co-chief James Gunn previously defended the release delays by explaining how it’s “fairly common” for big-budget titles to have lengthy gaps before a sequel is released. “To be fair, a 5-year gap or more is fairly common in sequels,” Gunn wrote on Threads last year. “7 years between ‘Alien’ and ‘Aliens.’ 14 years between ‘Incredibles.’ 7 years between the first two ‘Terminators.’ 13 years between ‘Avatars.’ 36 years between ‘Top Guns.’ And, of course, six years between ‘Guardians Vol 2’ and ‘Vol 3.’”
