Pictures Sign in to your Polygon.com account With a new director attached to help complete The Batman Part 2 and production officially resuming, Robert Pattinson has spoken out about the whirlwind month the project has had. At the start of October, DC announced production had halted as Matt Reeves stepped away because of a family matter. A few weeks later, Steven Soderbergh was revealed to be coming on to help complete Reeves' vision. Pattinson has nothing but good words for Soderbergh, calling the director's approach to The Batman Part 2 "completely selfless." Talking to GamesRadar, Pattinson revealed that filming had resumed: "I think they're in production already," and said he's set to start shooting again "in a couple of days." This time, Soderbergh (Ocean's Eleven, Magic Mike) will be taking on directorial duties. The film's star said that he's "so happy [Soderbergh]'s come on to help Matt [Reeves]," adding that the director took on the project in a generous, selfless spirit—he simply wanted to help complete Reeves and Pattinson's vision. When DC announced Soderbergh would be involved in completing production, the director wrote in a statement that he "thought Matt Reeves’ work on The Batman was stunning; it was intentional, specific, and rigorously coherent." When the news first broke that production had been halted, fans were worried that this might be the end of The Batman Part 2. It's already been four years since the original movie was released and the sequel has been delayed a number of times. DC's film slate has also gone through a number of shake-ups, such as James Gunn coming on to lead a new DC Universe, of which Reeves's movie is not a part. Still, Pattinson and DC insisted there was no scenario in which the film would not be released. With production back on track, it seems likely the movie will meet its slated release date of Feb. 18, 2028. What will The Batman Part 2 be about? Image: Warner Bros. Plot details for Pattinson's second outing as Bruce Wayne / Batman have been kept largely under wraps. Reeves has always described his connected Batman films and The Penguin spin-off series as the "Batman Epic Crime Saga," which means it is likely there will still be a focus on the seedy side of Gotham rather than over-the-top members of the rogues' gallery. There is heavy speculation that the movie will include the Court of Owls as a villain, a point supported by production photos. Production photos also showed the character Anarky, suggesting the film will tackle Gotham's wealth inequality — a conflict that places Bruce Wayne, as a member of the city's elite, at its center. It would be interesting to see how Reeves and Pattinson tackle a narrative in which the city supports Batman but is against Bruce. In addition to Pattinson, returning actors include Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin. Barry Keoghan may also reprise his role as the Joker. There will also be a number of newcomers to the cast. Sebastian Stan will play Harvey Dent, Scarlett Johansson will reportedly play Gilda Dent, Harvey's wife, and Charles Dance may play Charles Dent, Harvey's father.
