Robert Griffin III: Dylan Stewart ‘tanking his draft stock’ with ‘uncoachable’ behavior vs. Alabama

South Carolina junior pass rusher Dylan Stewart is currently on hiatus from the team while serving what Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer described as an “indefinite” suspension following his insolent behavior in last Saturday’s 49-18 loss at Alabama. The SEC also levied a one-game suspension for Stewart’s “egregious contact” after the potential Top 10 NFL Draft pick swung on a Crimson Tide player. And while his immediate future remains uncertain following his one-game suspension, Stewart’s petulant behavior last Saturday — including rebuffing direct orders from his coaches to come off the field — could already have caused irreparable damage to his once-skyhigh NFL Draft stock. FOX Sports analyst and former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III even suggested Stewart could tarnish his reputation among NFL personnel to the point he goes completely undrafted in April. [ $19.99 gets you a FULL year of On3 | Rivals national coverage ] “This is a classic example of a guy being his own worst nightmare. Dylan Stewart isn’t just tanking his draft stock, he’s almost making it to where he could be undrafted,” Griffin said on Wednesday’s episode of his Outta Pocket with RGIII podcast. “Coaches will deal with certain off-the-field things because they believe your talent overshadows that. … But what Dylan Stewart did is show you that not only does he not care about his draft stock, he doesn’t care about his team, he doesn’t care what his coach as to say. And once you get into that, they start calling you uncoachable and that makes you undraftable.” South Carolina DE Dylan Stewart has COST HIMSELF MILLIONS.-Quit on his team-Punched an Alabama player-Refused to come out the game when instructed to -Refused to run off the field when instructed to-Suspended IndefinitelyTop 5 pick and COMPLETELY tanked his draft stock. pic.twitter.com/Sfa9EOIuWa— Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) September 30, 2026 To make his point, Griffin brought up the infamous case of former Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount, who was suspended for much of 2009 season after punching a Boise State player at the end of their season-opener that year. And while he was reinstated and played in the Ducks’ final two games of the season, Blount’s questionable behavior resulted in him going unselected in the 2010 NFL Draft. But that wasn’t the end for Blount, who rushed for more than 1,000 yards as an undrafted rookie with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2010. Blount would go onto win three Super Bowls during his 10-year NFL career (2010-18), including as an integral piece of the New England Patriots‘ Super Bowl-winning seasons in 2014 and 2016 under head coach Bill Belichick. “We’ve seen guys throw punches on the field and go win Super Bowls. Right? LeGarrette Blount threw a punch – one of the most infamous punches of all time,” Griffin concluded. “And guess what? He went and won a Super Bowl with the (New England) Patriots. … But if your coach is telling you to come out the game, you come out the game.” Whether or not Stewart can salvage his NFL draft stock before next April remains to be seen. Coming into the season, Stewart was widely considered an unquestioned Top 10 pick and there was even some pundits who thought he could be the first defensive player of the board, likely meaning a Top 5 selection. Of course, that was before his insubordinate behavior Saturday against Alabama. So, while the college football world awaits to see what happens next with South Carolina’s elite pass rusher, the NFL will ultimately determine if Stewart’s unquestioned talent is enough to merit consideration on draft weekend.
