The India wicketkeeper-batter could not continue after being struck by a short delivery from Lahiru Kumara.The incident occurred in the 58th over of India's first innings, shortly after tea, with Pant batting on three. He attempted to pull the short ball but only managed to glove it and immediately showed signs of discomfort.IND vs SL, 2nd Test Day 1: UPDATESThe physio attended to Pant during an extended stoppage and applied an ice pack to the affected wrist. After the assessment, Pant walked off the field retired hurt, with Ravindra Jadeja coming out to bat in his place. The injury came after India had put together an impressive recovery in the middle session. Shubman Gill and Devdutt Padikkal added 120 runs for the third wicket before Gill fell shortly before tea, with Padikkal unbeaten on 63 when the interval was taken.Pant had walked out alongside Padikkal shortly before tea and had scored three before the blow brought his innings to an early end.INDIA'S MIXED START TO COLOMBO TEST India won the toss and chose to bat first at the Sinhalese Sports Club, with Saransh Jain making his Test debut. Jaiswal then departed for 45 after Asitha Fernando found his inside edge, with the dismissal followed by a heated exchange between the India opener and the Sri Lankan pacer.Padikkal provided the stability India needed after the early setbacks. The left-hander survived a chance on one when Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva dropped an opportunity at backward point off Keshara Nuwantha.He made the most of the reprieve, eventually bringing up his half-century from 90 balls. A powerful pull off Kumara was among the standout shots of his innings.Gill was equally assured and reached his fifty before falling on the stroke of tea. The India captain had shared a 120-run partnership with Padikkal before edging Asitha Fernando through to Dickwella.India were 187/3 at tea and had appeared to be in control after recovering from the early setbacks.
