Legends & Battlefields Will No Longer Take Up A Rare Slot In Riftbound Packs From 2027 Published Aug 4, 2026, 7:17 AM EDT Riot Games recently announced a swathe of new products and changes coming to Riftbound in 2027, including the game's fifth set, Legacy, which we'll discuss later in the article. A major change, and one that's sure to delight players, is that from 2027 onwards, Champion Legends and Battlefields will no longer occupy a rare slot in a booster pack. Instead, these cards will replace one of the common slots in the pack, allowing players a higher chance of opening a truly rare card. "Starting with Legacy, we are replacing a common card slot in booster packs with a slot dedicated to being either a Legend or Battlefield, at roughly a 50/50 frequency," the post reads. "To be clear, this means Legacy boosters and sets after it will contain 6 common cards instead of 7." The crux of the problem with the current system is that players can only use one Champion Legend in a deck, so while these cards are needed, opening repeats of them is a negative experience because they are useless (and also worthless for resale). "The problem we needed to solve was how do we manage their presence in booster packs to ensure availability to those that need them, but minimise how often they leave players disappointed to see them in packs?" Riot's solution wound up being one that was commonly requested by the community: a dedicated slot separate from the pack's rare pulls. This should go a long way in alleviating some of the concerns players have had with Riftbound's booster packs. Riot announces Legacy, new products and drafting Following the recent release of Vendetta, Riftbound's next set is Radiance, which is set to release on October 23. We already know the set will feature nine new legends, including Jarvan IV, Ziggs, Seraphine, Ekko and Evelynn. Riot shared a sneak peek of Ekko's Champion Legend, "The Boy Who Shattered Time." Following that, 2027 will begin with Riftbound's sixth set, Legacy. This set, releasing on January 29, will feature Ashe, Garen (his second Legend), Heimerdinger, Illaoi, Karma, Lux, Tryndamere, Vladimir and four more friends. The set is designed around "The moment at the start of the game when you sit down across from your opponent, and both reveal who you are representing [...] You are representing a region's spirit through your champion," according to the post. Legacy will also be the first of Riftbound's sets designed around Draft, a mode of play wherein players construct decks from shared booster packs and then compete against one another. We also received details on the game's seventh set, Reckoning, which will "feature some of League's biggest champions", including Aurelion Sol, Cho'Gath, Shyvana, Vayne, Zilean and four others. The set will release on April 30. The name of Set 8 has yet to be announced, but it will be set in the home of the yordles, Bandle City. You can expect whimsy when this set releases in Q3 of next year. In terms of new products, a second Proving Grounds will be released with Legacy and will feature the Champion Legends: Heimerdinger, Vladimir, Karma and Illaoi. The Gift of the Rift Bundle, releasing in December, will have booster packs from each of Riftbound's first five sets and an alt-art version of Akali's Champion Legend.
