Ricky Gervais gives cutting response after demand for Celebrity Traitors season 3

The 65-year-old comedian, who helped Stephen Merchant create The Office and Extras, has been beleaguered by his fans who want to know if he’d ever do Celebrity Traitors. In fact, Ricky’s legions of fans are so keen to see the Dutch Barn salesman enter Claudia’s castle that they’ve even mocked up what he’d look like if he were ever given a Traitors cloak. And you know what? Turns out… he looks like David Brent in a green cloak! Anyway, the mocked-up photo was shared on X along with the caption: ‘The BBC definitely can’t afford him, but this is what the nation wants for the next series of The Celebrity Traitors.’ And while we can neither confirm nor deny it’s what the nation wants (The tweet only got 900ish likes), it seems like Ricky might be up for a stay in Scotland. Replying to another fan, who asked if he’d prefer to be a Traitor or a Faithful, Ricky said it wouldn’t make a difference to him. ‘Don’t mind,’ he wrote. ‘Traitor is more fun if your fellow traitors are good. But I think everyone would assume I’m a traitor anyway, so I’d be out early either way.’ I wonder what Claude would make of Ricky? Back in 2024, when rumours first began to swirl that the Beeb was working on a celebrity version of the show, the Alley Cats creator was linked with the series. His old pal Jonathan Ross claimed on his podcast that the real reason Ricky stayed out of the competition was that he feared being targeted. ‘I had a chat this week with Ricky Gervais,’ Wossy explained. ‘He called me after The Traitors. And he was asked to go in. ‘He called me because I think my name [had been rumoured as a contestant]. Nothing had been confirmed before we filmed it. Stephen Fry is definitely doing it, and Alan Carr is”.’ Apparently Ricky then said he didn’t want to do it because he feared the Faithfuls would target the biggest names in the castle. ‘You’re going to wind up getting voted out just because they think you’re a bigger name in the outside world,’ Ross claims Ricky said.
