Richie Mehta's Phoolan to premiere at Toronto Film Festival ahead of OTT release

Prime Video's upcoming Hindi original film Phoolan, written and directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Richie Mehta, has been selected for the Special Presentations section at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).The film will be screened on September 16 at the Princess of Wales Theatre during the festival, which is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20.Inspired by I, Phoolan – The Autobiography of India's Bandit Queen, the film focusses on a chapter from the life of Phoolan Devi, centring on a 48-hour siege in which she was surrounded by thousands of armed men.Sneha Kumari plays the titular role, while the cast also includes Anurag Thakur, Vikram Pratap Singh, Aakash Dahiya, Prateek Pachori and Dev Dutt Budholiya.The film has been written and directed by Richie Mehta and produced by Shareen Mantri Kedia, Kishor Arora, Kanwal Kohli and Mehta under the banner of Namah Pictures. Set in rural India, Phoolan follows the story of a 17-year-old girl who later became one of the country's most well-known outlaws. The film explores a defining episode from her life during a prolonged armed confrontation.The Toronto International Film Festival is known for presenting international cinema and for bringing together films and filmmakers from across the world.
