The Saltburn actor, 69, shocked his fellow Traitors contestants as the second season of the spin-off show this week with an unlikely confession. When asked by Joe Lycett if he was a Faithful or a Traitor, Richard admitted that he was, in fact, a Traitor; a move that viewers and his fellow Traitors, Maya Jama and James Acaster, found utterly baffling. Then on Friday, the Withnail and I actor appeared on Classic FM as part of the Cash Call, handing Andy from Essex a record £1.25million prize. He made the winning phone call at 5pm, telling the ceramic tiler that he had won the biggest prize in UK radio history almost immediately, with no build-up or idle chit-chat. While Andy was absolutely stunned by the news, Richard made a tongue-in-cheek joke about his abrupt approach. Andy revealed that he and his wife, who is originally from Mauritius, would be using part of the money to visit family there next year, as the cost had previously meant the trip was unaffordable. ‘We’re going to have a big holiday! A family holiday. My wife is originally from Mauritius, we’re thinking about going next year and visit some family. We couldn’t afford that so it was just a dream really,’ he told Richard. He added: ‘We were trying to go there one day, but hopefully that day has arrived.’ Richard’s time in Celebrity Traitors has been left hanging in the balance following the show’s second episode. Richard’s fate on Celebrity Traitors seems sealed (Picture: BBC/Studio Lambert/Euan Cherry/PA Wire) It ended on a huge cliffhanger during the first roundtable of the season, in which the contestants had a heated debate as to whether they actually believe Richard is a Traitor or not. Despite trying to divert attention away from Richard, Maya left fans shocked after she turned on Richard during the debate. Speaking to Metro and other press, The Traitors host Claudia Winkleman opened up about choosing Richard as a Traitor and her reaction to his reveal to everyone else only minutes later. ‘He was just so happy,’ she said. ‘He just couldn’t believe it. And me, Sarah, and a whole brilliant gang, you go into a room after I’ve interviewed them all, and they say, “This is what I want to be.” ‘You just couldn’t not give it to him because he wanted it so much, and he was compelling, and he’s Richard E Grant.’ To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video She continued: ‘I couldn’t believe that he was actually in the castle. He was so giddy, and then the minute he said it, well, actually not the minute, about five minutes later, he went, “The genius of the game.” ‘The game is everybody plays it completely differently, and he took that to the next level.’ Celebrity Traitors season two continues on Thursday, October 8, at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer Arrow MORE: Celebrity Traitors star Amol Rajan reveals his big mistake after first murder Arrow MORE: The next Celebrity Traitors murder is a done deal – and I’m gutted Arrow MORE: Who is Celebrity Traitors star Sebastian Croft who had forgotten Game of Thrones role?
