RGV is 'watching Dhurandhar again' amid Toxic's negative reviews, internet reacts

As Yash's Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups opened in theatres on Wednesday, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma appeared to have Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar on his mind. Varma, who has been vocal about his admiration for Aditya Dhar’s Ranveer Singh-starrer, shared an X post August 26 that read, “Now watching #Dhurandhar again,” on the very day Yash’s much-awaited film hit cinemas. The timing of the post is particularly interesting given that Toxic and Dhurandhar: The Revenge could have been competing for the same box-office audience earlier this year. Geetu Mohandas’ film was originally scheduled to release on March 19, the same date as Dhurandhar: The Revenge, before its release was pushed to August.Varma did not explain why he had decided to watch the Ranveer Singh-led action thriller again. However, the timing of his post led several users to interpret it as a dig at Toxic, which had received negative reactions earlier in the day. Several users reacted to Varma’s post, with some directly connecting it to Toxic. “Bro is more toxic than #toxic,” one user wrote.Another user compared the two films, writing, “i understood TOXIC is like DHURANDHAR? / watching DHURANDHAR is best than watching TOXIC.” A third user pointed to the proposed March clash and suggested that Yash’s film had avoided a direct confrontation with Dhurandhar. “and imagine they were about clash against this movie. yash is actually clever. He knew dhurandhar gonna trash this film left right centre everywhere,” the user posted. Comment on Ram Gopal Varma's X post Others viewed Varma’s post as deliberate provocation. “this is called Ragebaiting for Geetu Mohandas,” read another reaction. However, not everyone appreciated the filmmaker’s apparent jab. Some users criticised Varma for seemingly dismissing the work that went into making Toxic.“Can understand Audience reacting like that. But atleast have some manner to respect someone hard work and craft who’s filmmaker like as you lol. Better than many shitty movies (sic),” one user commented. Comment on Ram Gopal Varma's X Post Another wrote, “Yesterday yash fans were hyped and were waiting for SRV and RGV tweets, But the tweet they recieved. Stay strong yash fans, this too shall pass (sic).” RGV's earlier comparison between Toxic and DhurandharVarma’s latest post is not the first time he has compared the two films. Back in February, when Toxic and Dhurandhar 2 were expected to release around the same time, he drew a rather elaborate comparison between the two films.“KGF 2’s GOlIATH like collections suddenly looked like a tiny DAVID in front of #Dhurandar ‘s GOLIATH collections. But now the sequel to that GOLIATH #Dhurandhar2, is the new DAVID staring up at #Toxic, the fresh GOLIATH,” he wrote on X.In another post, Varma was even more direct about his views on the two films.“The principal difference between the two is that #Dhurandhar respects the audience’s intelligence and #Toxic presumes their dumbness. KGF 2 was a LOCAL film that aimed at the DUMBNESS in the MASSES and Dhurandhar aimed at the INTELLIGENCE in the MASSES. THAT is exactly why it became GLOBAL,” he wrote. Ram Gopal Varma's X post Toxic is seen as Yash's comeback to the big screens four years after his monumental hit, KGF: Chapter 2.- EndsPublished By: Sanjay Ponnappa CSPublished On: Aug 27, 2026 15:23 ISTMUST WATCH:
