Residents evacuated as ‘explosion’ at block of flats shatters windows with man, 18, arrested

A MAN has been arrested after a suspected explosion forced emergency services to evacuate a block of flats. Police responded to Princes Street, Ipswich yesterday evening after receiving reports that an apparent blast had damaged several windows. The block of flats was evacuated and the street was closed as police conducted enquiries. A short while later an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson/criminal damage with intent to endanger life, police said. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and remains in custody. Fire and rescue services and ambulance crews were also scrambled to the scene. Anyone with any information that may assist investigators is asked to contact Suffolk Police. The force said: “Enquiries continue to establish the circumstances of the incident, however no injuries have been reported. “Motorists are advised that a diversion is currently in place, as Princes Street is expected to remain closed overnight. “Anyone with information relating to the incident is asked to contact police quoting CAD 416 of 31 July.” Most read in The Sun
