It’s easy to forget considering how absolutely stacked 2026 has been, but it’s not even been a year since Resident Evil Requiem launched and gave us the series’ biggest game to date. Despite that, Capcom clearly doesn’t plan on slowing down, as it followed up Leon's return with the reveal of the long-rumoured Code Veronica remake. Resident Evil Veronica’s showstopping Summer Game Fest reveal is coming up on being half a year ago, and we’ve heard literally nothing about it since then. A reliable Resident Evil insider recently claimed this is because of a delay that’s pushed the game into Fall 2027, and they’ve now shared why that was done. Requiem Criticisms Could Be The Cause Of Resident Evil Veronica’s Reported Delay RE9’s Story DLC Is Also Affected Earlier today, AestheticGamer1 responded to a post on Twitter complaining about The Game Awards and Summer Game Fest getting all of the Resident Evil reveals. In response, Dusk explained that the lack of marketing for Veronica and the Requiem DLC isn’t tied to that, and that it’s actually due to the game’s development. According to them, Capcom was in a “busy crunch period” earlier in the year to try and get Veronica out in the first quarter of 2027, which slipped back to Q2 and eventually to Fall. AestheticGamer1 says that Capcom could have released Veronica in early 2027 but, “especially after Requiem feedback”, it wants to give both it and the still unseen story DLC more time. If you’re wondering what Requiem feedback has hit Capcom so hard, Dusk suggests that it’s tied to complaints about the story, the more open-world portion of the game, and some sections that are only “alright”. I have to imagine that last bit is talking about the back end of Leon’s campaign, which many think is the low point of Requiem. As frustrating as it’s been to go so long without any kind of update on the future of Resident Evil, it’s definitely better that Capcom is listening to everyone about what needs to be improved and giving itself the time to do so. And hey, if any series has earned itself a bit of a break, it’s Resident Evil.
