Resident Evil Remake Collection Officially Announced

Published Sep 9, 2026, 10:48 AM EDT Jared is a writer, editor, and Communications Studies graduate who loves popular nerd culture (almost anything to do with Marvel, DC, Star Wars, or The Lord of the Rings) and the interactive storytelling medium. Jared's first console was the PS1, wherein he fell for Spider-Man, Spyro the Dragon, and Crash Bandicoot. Resident Evil remakes have become as synonymous with the franchise as mainline installments. Indeed, Resident Evil's remakes have now branched out into their own unique continuity, with every new entry expanding the timeline and lore with details that either retcon the original games or flesh them out further. Resident Evil Veronica is the next Resident Evil remake to be released. However, before then, fans have a big incentive to revisit Leon S. Kennedy's story and a seminal Jill Valentine story on the Nintendo Switch 2 this October. Announced at today's September 2026 Nintendo Direct, the Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 remakes are being released on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 16. These editions all include these games' available DLC, with Resident Evil 2's Deluxe edition and Resident Evil 4's Gold edition, for instance. However, these Nintendo Switch 2 ports are only available digitally. These three remakes are fantastic on any platform, as they have reimagined such classic Resident Evil stories and wonderful survival-horror games. With any luck, we'll soon see a remake of Resident Evil 1 in the same capacity, with a rumor of a second remake for the first game being in development. Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 tell a particular story as something of a trilogy for Leon. Resident Evil 6 would continue Leon's story and also see him reunite with Resident Evil's Sherry Birkin, but the second, third, and fourth games tell a much more compact narrative related to Leon's experiences in Raccoon City and how they affected his life path. Resident Evil 3 is also one of the biggest outings that Jill has ever been treated to in the series (a bit disappointing, given how fantastic and iconic she is). She never runs into Leon, of course, but she is just as vital to the Raccoon City Incident's profound effect on the whole overarching story, especially in these early games. It's even more pertinent to have these remakes revisited, then, due to the fact that Resident Evil Veronica stars Claire Redfield and closely follows the narrative of Resident Evil 2. Therefore, Resident Evil 2 is foundational for fans to be able to comprehend the context of Resident Evil Veronica, assuming its adaptation of Resident Evil Code: Veronica is faithful. Resident Evil prevails as one of the most successful horror franchises in video games, and it will be thrilling to see how its remake continuity continues to thrive as the number of options for titles to remake dwindles.
