When Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil movie hit theatres last week, there were two main takeaways from moviegoers. The first is that the film is fantastic and Resi fans all owe Cregger an apology for bothering him so much leading up to release. The second is that the “horrible” ending was incredibly depressing, seemingly even ruining the movie for many. Depending on your viewpoint, the Resident Evil movie’s ending is either left pretty ambiguous or is as plain as day when it comes to what happens to Bryan. Well, we might have just got a tease of what happened after the credits rolled from an official Resident Evil account, which has already got fans theorycrafting. We’re obviously going to be discussing the Resident Evil movie’s ending, so steer clear if you don’t want to be spoiled. Resident Evil Account Teases Bryan’s Fate After The Movie’s Ending “Result: Failure” As we highlighted back when we reported on how divisive the ending was, the finale of Resident Evil sees lovable failure Bryan infected with the virus and mutated into a horrible monster. As the Umbrella scientists fail to stick him with a needle and cure him, Bryan fully transforms into a rage-filled beast that’s caught in some helicopter headlights. We don’t get to see what happens after that, but it’s pretty easy to imagine Bryan seeing the sharp end of a missile fired by a Resi protagonist. Many assumed that was the end of his story, but a new post from the official Japanese Resident Evil movie account suggests that might not actually be the case. The post shows an X-ray scan of a mutated “composite” human, which is clearly meant to be Bryan based on that wording and the reference including his initials. The scan also lists several conditions we know Bryan suffered after mutating, including “orbital asymmetry” and “dental hyperplasia”. Unsurprisingly, the scan confirms the virus wasn’t an accident, as it lists the “experiment” as a “failure”. If you didn’t figure that out already, though, I don’t know what to tell you. Bryan being X-rayed like this suggests that he made it out of the encounter with the national guard at the end of the movie, at least until he was captured by Umbrella. It’s not clear if he was then killed (which seems likely to me if he’s deemed a “failure”) or is being kept in captivity in some secret lab, but we do at least know a little bit more about what happened to him.
