A South Carolina Republican is calling for Lindsay Clancy to be publicly executed as the killer mom faces a retrial.Congresswoman Nancy Mace slammed the Massachusetts woman on Monday after a judge declared a mistrial in her case earlier this month. She told TMZ: 'Her children are dead, she should be dead too' Clancy, 36, had admitted to strangling her children with exercise bands before attempting suicide at the family's Duxbury home in January 2023. Her defense attorney Kevin Reddington argued in court that she was overmedicated at the time, while suffering from postpartum depression and therefore the cocktail of drugs she was prescribed brought on a psychosis where she lost touch with reality. However, the jury, composed of nine women and three men, failed to reach a unanimous conclusion after nearly six weeks, with just one juror remaining unconvinced. According to the jurors, the lone holdout acknowledged having reasonable doubt but nevertheless refused to agree to the insanity verdict that would see Clancy remain in a state run mental health facility indefinitely.Mace showed little sympathy for the insanity plea. 'She should get the death penalty. It should be public, it should be a public execution,' she said, adding that she 'deserves nothing less'.'It could be by firearm, it could be electric chair, I don’t really care,' the firebrand lawmaker added. On Thursday, Reddington filed a routine defense motion asking the judge to enter a finding of not guilty by lack of criminal responsibility, alleging prosecutors did not present sufficient evidence to prove Clancy is criminally responsible for her actions. Sullivan denied two similar motions during the course of the trial. Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has not yet said whether he will retry the case.Cruz stated on Friday that his office remains focused on Clancy’s children: Cora, five, Dawson, three, and Callan, eight months.He spoke to reporters after the judge declared a mistrial, stating: 'We’re here at this courthouse today because those children are not.' He added that one of a prosecutor’s most important functions was to 'speak for the victims who are no longer here.'A court hearing on the case is scheduled for September 29 at Plymouth Superior Court, where both parties are expected to address the latest motion and next steps in the case. Clancy will be held at a psychiatric facility until the hearing. There’ll be a price.'He added: 'It’s going to be a mental institution or jail or something, but I guess they’re going to go through another trial.
