Report: iPhone Duo could give Apple a 25% share of foldable market in 2026

A new TrendForce report says the iPhone Duo is expected to capture 24,8% of the foldable smartphone market in 2026 alone, countering a 20% slump in the segment. Here are the details. iPhone Duo expected to ship 5 million units by the end of 2026 Following yesterday’s announcement of the iPhone Duo, TrendForce published a report today predicting that Apple will capture 24,8% of the foldable smartphone segment by the end of the year. TrendForce expects Apple to ship 5 million units of the iPhone Duo in 2026, helping offset a segment-wide slowdown due to “sharp increases in component costs”: TrendForce forecasts global foldable smartphone shipments of approximately 20.2 million units in 2026, up just 0.5% YoY. Excluding Apple, combined shipments from Android brands are expected to reach only around 15.2 million units, down more than 20% YoY. The report notes that Samsung is still poised to lead the market with 7.1 million units shipped for the year and 35.1% market share, and expects Huawei to match Apple’s 5 million units shipped and 24.8% share. TrendForce goes on to analyze some of Apple’s hardware choices for the iPhone Duo, including the trade-offs the company made to achieve its final design: Apple has omitted a dedicated periscope telephoto camera to minimize thickness and conserve internal space. Instead, the 48 MP main camera provides 2x optical-quality zoom, while a side-mounted Touch ID sensor replaces Face ID. These choices highlight the trade-offs that foldable smartphones continue to face among device thickness, camera capabilities, biometric components, and battery space. TrendForce rounds out the report by looking ahead at the foldable segment, suggesting that “deeper integration of AI and multitasking interfaces with the larger foldable display could transform the device from a hardware differentiator into a new interface for AI applications.” To read TrendForce’s full report, follow this link.
