Published October 25, 2026 07:40 AM Chiefs left tackle Josh Simmons, who hasn’t played this season and was placed on injured reserve on Thursday, was told to leave a Wednesday team meeting by head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The incident began with Simmons sitting with his feet up and Reid asking him to put his feet down, according to ESPN. Simmons said he was sitting that way because of his back injury, and Reid told him if he couldn’t sit upright he should go get treatment from the training staff. As Simmons and Reid went back and forth, Mahomes told Simmons he should leave and stop disrupting the meeting. Simmons did.Simmons later apologized to Reid and team leaders, according to the report. On the injury report on Wednesday, the Chiefs said that Simmons didn’t practice because of “back/not injury related-personal,” which might suggest that his absence from practice was a combination of both his back injury and the dispute he’d had with Reid, although Chiefs vice president of sports medicine and performance Rick Burkholder said the personal reason for Simmons missing practice was the team giving him time to talk to his family and agents about how to proceed with his back injury. The Chiefs made Simmons their first-round draft pick last year in the hopes that he could protect Mahomes’ blind side for years to come. But so far Simmons has only played in eight games and missed 14.Simmons hasn’t practiced since August. The soonest he could play would be the Chiefs’ Week 11 game against the Cardinals.
