Remove caste names from roads, public places: Tamil Nadu SC/ST Commission directs Collectors

Thamodharan The Tamil Nadu State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes has directed all district Collectors to remove caste names from streets, roads, waterbodies and other public places in all local bodies and areas covered under the revenue administration.In his letter, writer Imayam, Chairperson-in-charge of the Commission, asked the district Collectors to submit a report within a month after removing and renaming the places bearing caste names.Recalling the order issued by the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department in October 2025, he said a Division Bench of the Madras High Court had already upheld the order, though an earlier Bench had granted an interim stay.
