Remembering Allan Nascimento: UFC veteran’s fighting life and legacy

This morning, Monday, August 3rd, our beloved flyweight fighter, Allan Nascimento, was found unresponsive after suffering an apparent heart attack in his sleep. Despite the efforts of the responding medical team, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Our thoughts and deepest… pic.twitter.com/vlaBaBOyJr — UFC (@ufc) August 3, 2026 A week ago, the mixed martial arts world received the wholly unexpected news that six-time Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Allan Nascimento had died from an apparent heart attack at just 34 years of age. I first spoke to Allan over 13 years ago. It was his second year as a pro fighter, and he’d been making his name in promotions like Legacy Fighting Championship. This is far from the first time that someone I got to know in the fight world was just gone from one day to the next. But this time felt different. Allan had always been polite and accommodating during our occasional chats. Like most fighters, he’d talk about his plans to climb the world rankings toward a championship belt. In this line of work, that dream has very little chance of becoming reality. But it is nonetheless a powerful motivator. Allan had that wish for himself but also for his brothers in arms. Anyone paying attention to his career had to root for the guy — always positive and hopeful even after multiple setbacks. He managed a 29-fight pro career despite 21 canceled bouts. Early on, the goal was to pursue a career in the UFC, the same as fellow Chute Boxe product Charles Oliveira. So, it was tough to see him get so close on multiple occasions. In 2013, he suffered a decision loss to Will Campuzano for the Legacy belt. In 2016, he suffered a split decision loss, this time to Yuki Montoya, in legendary Saitama, Japan. And in 2018, he suffered a split decision loss to Raulian Paiva at Dana White’s Contender Series. But he never gave up. Allan eventually went on a 4-2 run in the UFC, highlighted by two Performance of the Night bonuses. Felipe Efrain: “Allan is the most disciplined athlete I’d seen. It was rare to even see him drink a soda. I would never have imagined this happening, from one moment to the next. He was so healthy and such a good person – an amazing athlete. I have no other words.” Daniel “Willycat” Santos: “Allan was a brother, a friend, and our general. He was one of our leaders, one of our pillars. This was the most painful loss of our lives. We never expected this would happen in this manner. He was the guy who was most dedicated to training, who always ate clean, the most athletic of us, who always took care of himself. He was a true example of a good human being, friend, uncle and son. He was always ready to help anyone and be at our side through every battle. When we fought in the cage, we could feel his guidance. We’ll miss him very much. He guided us. Everyone admired and loved him. We will miss him.” Daniel “Miojo” Lacerda: “My thoughts about Allan were always positive. He was always kind. He made a point to always include you and help in any way possible – financially or emotionally. He was extraordinary. He was healthy, athletic and intelligent. He was always good to us. I spent some time at Chute Boxe. There, we were training partners and we stayed in touch even after I moved to another city. This loss hit me in the heart, and I’m sure this was also true of many others. Allan always took care of us. It’s a great loss. He was an extraordinary fighter and an even greater human being.” Coach Jorge “Macaco” Patino: “From the bottom of my heart, Allan was a wonderful person -- a golden boy. It’s difficult to express through my sadness. He unfortunately passed away. I hope God has him in His arms, and can bring comfort to his family, to his mother. Sadly, he’s gone. He’s with Jesus now. “Allan shared with me his wish to make his parents proud. I am confident that’s exactly what he did.”
