Relief from heat for Andhra Pradesh likely as low pressure brews over Bay of Bengal

Giri Searing heat conditions, which have gripped many parts of Andhra Pradesh with the highest day temperatures touching up to 42 degrees Celsius, may make way for pleasant weather this weekend as another low-pressure system is likely to be formed over the Bay of Bengal.According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an upper-air cyclonic circulation lies over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining Coastal Andhra Pradesh at 7.6 km above mean sea level. It may intensify into a low-pressure area near North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha around September 11.The IMD said while hot and humid weather may persist in coastal Andhra Pradesh till September 11, the low-pressure system may bring relief from the heat. Light to moderate showers are expected across the State, while isolated heavy rainfall in North Coastal A.P. from September 12 to September 15.Currently, many places in the State are experiencing extreme heat conditions, forcing people to use umbrellas to cover themselves. As per the IMD forecast in its monthly outlook for the State, both the maximum and minimum temperatures have remained above-normal in the past two days.Mercury touches 42.2°CAccording to information on the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), the mercury levels touched 42.2 degrees Celsius at Throvagunta in Ongole of Prakasam district and Venkatagiri of Tirupati district on September 7. Pottempadu of Nellore district recorded 41.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Karamchedu of Bapatla (41.7 ° C). A total of 94 stations in the State recorded the day temperature of 40 degrees Celsius and above on Monday.On Tuesday too, the temperatures hovered around 40 degrees Celsius. At 5 p.m., Palagiri in YSR Kadapa district, Chintavaram and Kandaleru in Nellore district recorded 37.7 degrees Celsius, according to the DES.S. Karunasagar, Senior Scientist, IMD-Amaravati, said that temperatures were rising due to the lack of rainfall activity under El Nino effect and unfavourable conditions for convection. “This means no clouds, no moisture and hence, dry weather.” he said.
