Redmi Note 17 Pro, Note 17 Pro Max launched in India with AMOLED displays, large batteries

Redmi has expanded the Note 17 series in India with the Note 17 Pro and the Note 17 Pro Max. Both phones bring in large AMOLED displays with big batteries and Snapdragon chipsets. Both phones join the vanilla Note 17 that we saw last month. Like the Note 17, the Note 17 Pro and Note 17 Pro Max takes things up a notch in all aspects, be it the batteries, cameras, or the chipsets.Both phones are targeted at users who want to get a premium experience in the mid-range with a focus on battery life. From the design to the features, and of course, the price, here is everything you need to know about the Redmi Note 17 Pro series.Redmi Note 17 Pro, Note 17 Pro Max designAt first glance, you may find the Note 17 Pro and Note 17 Pro Max almost identical in terms of design. But there are some differences. While both phones get a square-ish camera module – the Note 17 Pro has a raised pill-shaped element to house the cameras. On the other hand, the Note 17 Pro Max has two individual camera cutouts.Both phones have a similar design with flat plastic frames and rounded edges, similar to what we saw on the base Note 17 too. The Redmi Note 17 Pro and Note 17 Pro Max come with plastic backplates. The two devices also have a thickness of about 8.6mm. However, there are differences in terms of colour options. You can buy the Redmi Note 17 Pro in three colours – Cloud Blue, Purple, and Black. The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max, on the other hand, is available in Secret Sunrise, Matcha Green, and Stealth Black. Both devices come with IP66/IP68/IP69/IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance.Redmi Note 17 Pro, Note 17 Pro Max displayMoving our attention to the front, the Note 17 Pro and Note 17 Pro Max use an identical 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. This display, Xiaomi says, is a 12-bit panel that can showcase as many as 68.7 billion colours. Both phones have a peak brightness of 3,500 nits with a high brightness mode (HMB) of 2,000 nits. You also get Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the Note 17 Pro series.You get stereo speakers on both devices with Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision support.Redmi Note 17 Pro, Note 17 Pro Max performance and batteryBattery life is a key focus of the Note 17 Pro series. The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max, in particular, comes with a 10,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, which the company says is the largest Xiaomi has built. This puts the Note 17 Pro Max among phones with the biggest battery that you can buy today in India, such as its sister phone, the Poco X8 Power.The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max supports 100W fast charging, along with 27W wired reverse charging. It carries a TV SD 5-Star battery certification for retaining 80 per cent capacity beyond 1,600 cycles, which the company equates to about six years.Meanwhile, the Note 17 Pro uses a 9,000mAh silicon-carbon cell. The company claims 3.5 days or more of light usage. Charging speed is set at 67W, while wired reverse charging is rated at 22.5W.Coming to performance, the Redmi Note 17 Pro uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 on a 4nm process, supports up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and either UFS 3.1 storage or UFS 2.2 storage depending on the variant you buy. The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max is one of the first phones in India to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chipset, paired with up to 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB UFS 4.1 storage.Redmi Note 17 Pro, Note 17 Pro Max cameras and softwareFor imaging, the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G has a 50-megapixel main camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS), an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera. The Note 17 Pro carries the same rear camera setup.On the front, the Note 17 Pro Max gets a 32-megapixel front camera, while the Note 17 Pro swaps it out for a 16-megapixel unit. You also have features such as High Dynamic Portrait, Night Portrait, and an AI Creativity Suite for glare removal, reflection removal, erase and expansion, on both phones.The two phones run on Android 16-based HyperOS 3. Xiaomi is promising four years of OS updates and six years of security patches. The phones also include HyperAI features such as an offline interpreter, speech recognition and DeepThink writing, as well as Offline Communication for kilometre-level messaging without a network.Redmi Note 17 Pro, Note 17 Pro Max launch and India priceThe Redmi Note 17 Pro starts at Rs 33,999 for the 8GB/128GB model, while the 8GB/256GB variant will cost you Rs 36,999.The Note 17 Pro Max, meanwhile, is priced at Rs 44,999 for the 8GB/256GB variant. The 12GB/256GB model costs Rs 50,999.The Redmi Note 17 Pro goes on sale in India on September 17, while the Note 17 Pro Max will be available starting September 23. You can save up to Rs 5,000 on either device via bank offers (Rs 3,000 on the Pro and Rs 5,000 on the Pro Max).
