Two variants of the same model, Redmi 17 5G and Redmi 17 4G, are now available in Malaysia. Notably, both of the models share almost the same hardware — a large 7,500mAh battery, 120Hz display and 50-megapixel camera — but they differ when it comes to connectivity and internal storage. The Redmi 17 5G was launched earlier this month in China, but again, the global version differs from the Chinese variant. The global variant ships with a larger battery and a newer Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 processor, while the Chinese model carries an Unisoc T8300 chipset.Redmi 17 specifications and featuresBoth 5G and 4G models of Redmi 17 ship with a 6.9-inch HD+ LCD panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, up to 240Hz touch sampling, 825 nits peak brightness and Gorilla Glass 7i protection.The 5G model is powered by a 4nm Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset, paired with 4GB LPDDR4x RAM and up to 256GB UFS 2.2 storage. While the 4G version is powered by a 12nm MediaTek Helio G91-Ultra with 4GB RAM and slower eMMC 5.1 storage.For photography, both devices ship with a 50-megapixel rear camera and 8MP selfie camera, with video recording up to 1080p at 30fps. To keep the lights on, a 7,500mAh battery is packed in the devices with support of 45W wired charging and 22.5W reverse charging. Whereas the Chinese version carries a smaller 6,300mAh battery, with 15W charging. In terms of durability, both of the devices carry an IP64 rating of dust and water resistance and run on HyperOS 3 based on Android 16.Redmi 17 price and availabilityThe Redmi 17 4G starts at MYR 669, or around Rs 16,000, for the 4GB RAM and 128GB storage variant. Meanwhile, the Redmi 17 5G starts at MYR 769, roughly Rs 18,000, for the same configuration. The 5G model also comes in a 4GB and 256GB variant, priced at MYR 869, or around Rs 20,000. Both models are currently available through Xiaomi's online store in Malaysia.
