Redeem American AAdvantage Miles On Oman Air (Finally), A Great Option!

In June 2025, Oman Air joined the oneworld alliance, which was an exciting addition. One of the big benefits of an airline joining an alliance is supposed to be the introduction of reciprocal award redemptions. American AAdvantage is the biggest frequent flyer program in the oneworld alliance, and for whatever reason, the program didn’t offer redemptions on Oman Air for over a year after joining. Well, that has finally changed, and it makes for some great redemption opportunities. Oman Air is based in Muscat (MCT), and flies to destinations in the Middle East, Europe, Southeast Asia, Africa, etc. American’s award redemptions rates are excellent, and Oman Air also releases a good amount of award availability. Oman is an interesting country in general, though this can also be useful for connecting itineraries.For example, you can redeem 40,000 AAdvantage miles to fly Oman Air from Muscat to Southeast Asia, or 42,500 AAdvantage miles to fly Oman Air from Muscat to Europe.AAdvantage award redemption rates on Oman AirAAdvantage award redemption rates on Oman AirHonestly, with Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways increasingly restricting award availability to partner programs (and releasing less space overall), it’s great to see more AAdvantage redemption options with good availability, as we’re seeing here.Oman Air has a great onboard product… for the most partAdmittedly the Gulf region is full of high quality airlines, but Oman Air is a special little boutique carrier. The airline has a fleet comprised of Boeing 787s and Boeing 737s.The 787s have Apex Suites, which I’d consider to be an excellent hard product, despite the 2-2-2 configuration (this product isn’t dense at all, so each passenger has quite a bit of space allocated to them). Oman Air also has a good soft product, and a nice lounge in Muscat.Oman Air 787 business classThe catch is that as Oman Air has downsized a bit over the years, the airline is increasingly flying its 737s on longer routes, and those planes just have recliner seats in business class. So be careful, because you could fly from Europe to Southeast Asia all the way on a 737, and that’s less than ideal. Oman Air Lounge Muscat AirportBut if you can fly the airline regionally on a 737, or long haul on a 787, you should have a nice experience. Oman is also worth a visit, beyond just stopping in Muscat.Oman is a picturesque country with a lot to offerBottom lineAmerican Airlines has just rolled out award redemptions on Oman Air, opening up a great new use of AAdvantage miles. Unfortunately Oman Air doesn’t fly to the United States, but there’s a lot of value here if traveling between the Middle East and Southeast Asia, Europe, Africa, etc.I’ve enjoyed my flights on Oman Air (well, mostly), and I absolutely plan on redeeming American miles for another flight on the airline at some point.
