Red Dead Redemption 2 Meets Skyrim In New Free Open-World PS Plus RPG

Published Aug 16, 2026, 7:30 AM EDT Known as 'Cyberpunk 2077's' biggest fan, Angharad is a Welsh games writer who thrives in anything related to digital storytelling. If a video game explores the intricacies and horrors of womanhood, she is there. Thanks to previous work at GAMINGbible, GameByte, The Loadout, Game Luster, Angharad has built a strong understanding of both the digital world and what fans want from it and is eager to share her thoughts and expertise with readers. Earlier this week saw Sony announce the August lineup for its PlayStation Plus library. Unlike previous months which have left a lot to be desired, the latest collection is fairly exciting, consisting of the hit co-op third-person shooter, Helldivers 2, indie roguelike shoot 'em up, Vampire Survivors, and Hell is Us, an action-adventure game with an emphasis on exploration. This is to name but a few, as another exciting addition has caught players' attention. Combining the open-world immersion of Red Dead Redemption 2 with the melee-based combat of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is now available for PlayStation Plus Extra members on PlayStation 5. First released back in 2025 and marking the second entry in the Kingdom Come series, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is an action RPG by Warhorse Studios. Selling more than six million copies by June 2026, it was even nominated for Game of the Year at the 2025 Game Awards, despite losing out to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Nevertheless, it was still met with critical and commercial success, becoming one of the year's most successful releases. Now, over a year on, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is available at no extra cost for PlayStation Plus Extra members with the official description on the PS blog reading as follows: You are Henry of Skalitz, an ordinary man doing extraordinary things, caught in a gripping tale of revenge, betrayal and discovery. Henry will embark on an epic journey, from a humble blacksmith’s forge to the court of Kings, as he searches for purpose in this beautiful but brutal medieval world. From bustling city streets to lush forests, discover an open-world medieval Europe through this thrilling action RPG set amid the chaos of a civil war in 15th-century Bohemia. Here at Screen Rant, our very own Leo Faierman awarded Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 a 9/10 stars, calling it "a stunning simulation and two-fisted history lesson" in his review. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is not about rolling a freshly cultivated character from scratch and playing exactly how you want to play, but an epic historical adventure about a very specific individual, his trials and tribulations, his weaknesses, and strengths. Its narrative intentions occasionally interfere with its open-world sensibilities, but not enough to distract from what is an otherwise beautiful, carefully constructed medieval sandbox. The specificity of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's world-building and historical adherence will be either a lure or an obstacle. For me, the game's intriguing political matrix and depiction of peasantry proved compelling, and should interest anyone otherwise unwilling to crack a dusty tome on these subjects. So, if you are on the search for an open-world RPG that rivals the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, look no further than Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, which arrives on the PS Plus library this August.
