Pulp Fiction is one of the best films of the 1990s and, while a remake feels unlikely, it is still interesting to reflect on what kind of contemporary cast would be ideal to take on the iconic roles in the story. Even the best movies have been remade over the years, making a still Pulp Fiction possible. Some movies feel more sacrosanct than others. While remaking The Godfather would be a challenging option, other films are less intricately connected to their original sources. Remakes like The Fly and True Grit have been fantastic updates on great movies of the past, giving contemporary spins on familiar material and finding great success. Other remakes, like 2016's debacle Ben Hur, have been less successful. Understanding the strengths of the original films, without sacrificing them, is an essential part of making a new iteration of a beloved story work. In the case of Pulp Fiction, the most important component of the original film is its strong script. Full of Quentin Tarantino's unique voice, the design, direction, and performances all could have been approached differently and the film still could have been successful. This makes considering the possibility of what kind of cast could play those roles in 2026 so interesting. Living up to the legacy of performers like Samuel L. Jackson, John Travolta, and Uma Thurman is a tough ask, but these performers could do a great job with it. Nicolas Cage As Captain Koons Christopher Walken played the role of Captain Koons in the original film, and an update would require a star of similar stature. Noted for his unique intensity, Nicolas Cage would be the perfect choice to fulfill this small role in the film. Like Waltz, Cage brings a measure of powerful unpredictability to his characters. He can easily dominate the screen for a long monologue, bringing just enough memorable star power of an older generation to the 2026 Pulp Fiction's makeup. The intense and memorable story of the watch is one of the highlights in the film. Cage would fill it in with his own colorful style, giving a fantastic and memorable update to the character. Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey As Jody Lance's girlfriend Jody plays a small but memorable role in Pulp Fiction. Played by Rosanna Arquette, the character brings a blasé attitude to serious circumstances, discussing her piercings and attempting to revive Mia after an overdose. This kind of character needs a beautiful, powerful performer, and Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey would be perfect for the role. She carries the right kind of intensity in films like King Arthur: Legend of the Sword to fit this kind of part. A French performer with a fantastic edge, Bergès-Frisbey has the ability to genuinely dominate the screen, even for a short period, and would be ideal for an updated take on Jody. Thomas Brodie-Sangster As Lance Joel Pratley / ©Hulu/Disney / Courtesy Everett Collection Lance is a heroin dealer with fantastic charisma, and Eric Stoltz did a perfect job with the character in the original film. Surprisingly friendly and casual, dressed in a bathrobe and introduced while eating a bowl of cereal, the role would need a performer with fantastic charm. Thomas Brodie-Sangster would be ideal for the part. He has the right kind of unique look, and a surprising amount of leading-man charm that would make his curious relationship with Jody and his adminstration of adrenaline alike believable. Known for his excellent work on The Queen's Gambit, Game of Thrones, and the Disney+ series The Artful Dodger, Brodie-Sangster would be an excellent addition to a remake of Pulp Fiction. Aaron Pierre As Marsellus Wallace Los Angeles crime boss Marsellus Wallace is fantastic in Pulp Fiction, and requires a performer who is both charismatic and terrifying. Ving Rhames made the character into one of the most memorable figures in the original film, and Aaron Pierre would be great as an updated version. Pierre has shown great versatility and skill in his acting. The recent ending of Lanterns has shown how he can be friendly and likeable, and he can also be a terrifying foe. He is cool, calm, and collected, and seems to be always in charge of the situation. Pierre is on the cusp of becoming a huge star following his work in Rebel Ridge and in the DC Universe. He is exactly the right kind of star to elevate the larger ensemble of a new Pulp Fiction. Daniela Melchior As Fabienne Fabienne's role in Pulp Fiction is unusual and makes a great contrast to the rest of the ensemble. As Butch's girlfriend, Maria de Medeiros imbues her with a naive characterization, at a distance from the world of crime at the center of the film's story. Portuguese rather than French, Daniela Melchior would be fantastic in a new take on this role. She is an excellent performer who can bring quick dramatic depth to dark moments, as seen in films like The Suicide Squad, and would be the perfect addition to this ensemble. At arm's length from the darker events of the film, Melchior would be a perfect fit for this ensemble. A dynamic performer with great skill in quietly building complex characters, she would make a lot of sense in this memorable role. Cara Delevingne as Honey Bunny Pumpkin and Honey Bunny are essential characters in the film's opening and closing framing device, and Amanda Plummer did a fantastic job with the role. An update on the messy and passionate character would need a strong performer with great capacity for quiet and madness alike. Cara Delevingne is an excellent actor who broke through in films like Paper Towns and Suicide Squad. She has a striking and unusually beautiful face, and also has the right dramatic passion to fulfill Honey Bunny's necessarily explosive moments. A gorgeous model and a strong actress, Delevingne has the right kind of intensity to make this part work, so long as she is paired with the right Pumpkin. Drew Starkey As Pumpkin Image via MovieStillsDB Tim Roth did a great job as Pumpkin in the original film, and a 2026 update would require a performer with the same kind of dramatic weight. Drew Starkey has become a well-known name in recent years thanks to his work in Outer Banks, and would be perfect for the role. Most importantly, Starkey recently played half of a criminal romantic pair in Apple TV's Lucky, where he brought fantastic intensity and dark characterization to the role of Cary Masterson. Much of what is required from the role is clearly seen on display there. A gorgeous actor and a rising star, Starkey would be the right fit for the role, and would be especially memorable paired up with Delevingne's Honey Bunny. Ethan Hawke As Winston Wolfe Shane Brown / FX Winston Wolfe plays a memorable role in Pulp Fiction, and Harvey Keitel was perfect for the part. Casual, calm, and collected, Wolf approaches his work with routine ease, requesting a cup of coffee while investigating a blood-soaked car. A role like this needs an iconoclastic performer with a commanding presence. Ethan Hawke is one of the best actors working today and has the potential to dominate every scene he appears in with his shockingly natural, easygoing charm. Casting Hawke as The Wolf would be the perfect choice in a new version of Pulp Fiction. With just enough detachment to make the role feel both colorful and grounded, he would be an ideal addition to this updated cast. Aaron Taylor-Johnson As Butch Coolidge Image credit: ©Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures/courtesy Everett Collection Butch Coolidge is one of the most important characters in Pulp Fiction and requires a strong performer. Bruce Willis was ideal in the role, as an aging boxer who double-crosses Marsellus Wallace and chooses not to throw a fight. Aaron Taylor-Johnson would be fantastic as a new version of this character. Moving into his late thirties, he is only a little bit younger than Willis was in the part, and has the right kind of violent but human, masculine energy for the role. More importantly than this, Taylor-Johnson is a strong dramatic performer who can bring the necessary depth to the Butch character as he navigates morality and duty. Kaia Gerber As Mia Wallace Uma Thurman's Mia Wallace is arguably the most memorable face of the film, and for good reason. A stunningly beautiful star, Thurman brought fantastic depth to the character, showing a charismatic young woman trapped within the machinations of her husband Marcellus' criminal work. Rising star Kaia Gerber would be the right choice for a new version of Mia. Gorgeous and commanding, Gerber has also shown a propensity for showing depth and vulnerability inside similarly complex roles. This was especially seen in her recent work on FX's The Shards, as well as in this year's Mother Mary. A strong performer with a bright future ahead, Gerber would be excellent as an updated version of Mia.
