KIM HUYBRECHTS fears Cameron Menzies’ frightening on-stage collapse is a moment that will stay with him forever. The World No.53 admitted he was stunned by the scenes at the Winter Gardens after the Scot was forced to abandon his second-round clash with Ross Smith. I can’t immediately recall this ever happening before. “In the past something happened with Ted Hankey as well, but actually having to step off the stage didn’t happen. It’s very unfortunate for Cameron.” The PDC later confirmed Menzies had received medical attention and was back at his hotel, easing fears over his condition. Huybrechts admitted the update was a relief but warned the scare would leave a lasting impression on Cammy. He added: “Fortunately I read that everything is okay, so it’s not super serious. He said: “We all feel unwell from time to time. Let’s hope this is it and that it’s nothing serious. But yes, it is striking.” Menzies later released a statement thanking fans for their support after his campaign came to a premature end. He said: “Just a quick message to say thank you to everyone for all the messages. “Unfortunately I wasn’t well enough to continue the match. It’s obviously not how I wanted my World Matchplay to end, especially after playing some of the best darts of my career over the last few weeks. “I’m grateful to the medical team for looking after me, to Ross for checking on me, and to everyone at the Winter Gardens for their support. “A big good luck to Ross for the rest of the tournament.
