Prime Video's best action TV series has nailed the combination of being exciting and fast-paced, with elements that can best be described as reassuringly predictable. So far, Reacher will always be kind to a person or animal in need of help, he will always have a fight scene that is all the more fun for being ludicrously improbable, and he will always have a romantic attachment to one of the women he meets. Reacher's best love interests have had genuine chemistry with him, but so far every season of the show has seen its titular character moving on. Reacher's four seasons might have followed this formula, but Lee Child's Jack Reacher books are slightly different when it comes to the hero's romantic life. While his relationships might still be famously short, a few have become comparatively long-term partners, with the series already hinting that his steadiest partner, Jodie Garber, will appear in a later season. That said, it will not be the upcoming Reacher season 5, which adapts the book Make Me. Season 5 will introduce ex-FBI agent Michelle Chang (Amanda Ip,) who inevitably becomes Reacher's love interest, but based on what happens next, she could stick around. Michelle Chang Can Appear In Reacher's Next 2 Seasons Reacher's next season will be its darkest yet, with its central story following his visit to the sinister town of Mother's Rest, where an advertised luxury euthanasia clinic turns out to be a cover for the production of gruesome snuff movies. Michelle has been waiting there for a colleague who never turns up, with the pair's search for him uncovering the horrifying truth. After Reacher's ordeal in season 4, and an arguably more disturbing discovery ahead of him, he is going to need support from somebody, and this could easily become Michelle. With most of the Jack Reacher books being standalone stories, the TV show has been adapting them out of order, but Make Me will be the first adaptation in the Reacher series that has a direct sequel. While it has not been confirmed which book season 6 will adapt, it is likely that this could be it. The Midnight Line deals with the emotional aftermath of Make Me's events, and it mentions Michelle. The character might not physically appear in the sequel, but the Reacher series has changed book details before, and this could be a good change to make. Early in The Midnight Line, Michelle leaves Reacher a note to tell him that she has returned home, which leaves him single again and with another romantic partner by the end of the book. Reacher's formula currently works, but it may only be a matter of time before the revolving door of women becomes less interesting than a relationship arc. Reacher's platonic friendship with Neagley is a perfect example of this working well, and if Alan Ritchson's onscreen chemistry with Amanda Ip is good, Reacher and Michelle could succeed where the last love interests failed, becoming a longer partnership. Reacher Needs A Regular Character To Replace Neagley Image via MovieStillsDB Frances Neagley has been Reacher's best supporting character by far, with their friendship being one of the anchor points throughout the show. The book version of Reacher does not have this connection with her, and giving Neagley a larger role in the series is one of the best decisions the team made. Now, with Neagley having her own successful spinoff, it is possible that she will make fewer appearances in Reacher. While Reacher's drifting nature means that there will never be a regular supporting cast, cameos from earlier characters, like Oscar Finlay (Malcolm Goodwin,) have been extremely popular. Reacher's longest relationship is with his toothbrush, which is one of the only possessions he carries, but Neagley worked as a regular character due to her own solitary nature. Her storylines did not detract from the season’s main arcs, and rather than weighing Reacher down, she effortlessly tracked him down. Even this gave her character an interesting status, as the person who knows Reacher better than he knows himself. The Reacher books have the occasional recurring characters, so replacing Neagley is not out of the question, but whether Michelle is the character to do so remains to be seen.
