The State government will begin the re-verification of beneficiaries under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme and collect their biometrics within 10 days. It will take another month to complete the ongoing re-verification of Gruha Jyoti beneficiaries, H.M. Revanna, chairman of the State-level Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee, said in Mangaluru on Tuesday.Talking to reporters at the Circuit House, H.M. Revanna said that since the launch of the Gruha Lakshmi scheme on August 30, 2023, under which women heads of families receive ₹2,000 a month, a total of ₹76,951 crore has been transferred to the accounts of 1.23 crore beneficiaries till June 2026. In Dakshina Kannada, 3.53 lakh beneficiaries have received ₹2,230.65 crore. The pending instalments for February and March will be released shortly, he said.On the re-verification of Gruha Lakshmi beneficiaries, Mr. Revanna said the government found that 3.13 lakh deceased beneficiaries had continued to receive 1.10 lakh monthly instalments after their death, amounting to ₹117.30 crore. Of this, ₹30 crore has been recovered so far.In Dakshina Kannada, 3,478 deceased beneficiaries received ₹3.35 crore, of which ₹1.43 crore has been recovered. Steps are being taken to recover the remaining amount.To prevent payments from being made to deceased beneficiaries, Mr. Revanna said a decision was taken on Monday to begin the re-verification of Gruha Lakshmi beneficiaries. As part of the exercise, officials will visit each beneficiary’s house and collect biometric details. Congress workers, who will soon be appointed as members of guarantee implementation committees at the panchayat and ward levels, will also be involved in the process.The Gruha Lakshmi re-verification drive will begin in about 10 days. The re-verification of Gruha Jyoti beneficiaries, which started a month ago, is 60% complete and is expected to be finished in another month.Mr. Revanna said there are 1.64 crore Gruha Jyoti beneficiaries in the State, and the government has spent ₹28,759 crore on the scheme so far. In Dakshina Kannada, there are 5.05 lakh beneficiaries and ₹1,282 crore has been spent.Indira KitsThe distribution of Indira Kits containing sugar, pulses, oil and salt in place of the 5 kg of rice provided under the Anna Bhagya scheme will begin shortly. Mr. Revanna said a decision had been taken to procure sugar and other ingredients for the kits through district-level tenders. On the demand for additional KSRTC buses in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and other regions dominated by private transport operators, Mr. Revanna said the government was taking the necessary steps. Earlier, addressing a taluk-level programme in Mangaluru to mark three years of the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, Mr. Revanna said the State government was effectively implementing all five guarantee schemes and that they had won the people’s confidence.A total of ₹1.47 lakh crore has reached beneficiaries under the five schemes, which works out to around ₹6,000 a month per beneficiary, he said.
