Grand Theft Auto 6’s controversial $400 collector’s edition just got roasted by Rayman Legends Retold and its $40 Launch Edition that comes with two whole games. Ever since GTA 6 was sadly confirmed not to be getting a proper physical release, fans have been begging Rockstar to at least give everyone a collector’s edition to make up for it. That wish was clearly granted by a monkey’s paw, as we are indeed getting a collector’s edition, but one that most people are really unhappy with. The Vice City Collection not only costs a whopping $400, far more than any other Rockstar collector’s edition, but also doesn’t even come with a copy of GTA 6, physical or otherwise. Instead, it’s filled to the brim with random (but admittedly cool) bits of merch, which is now even being put on blast by Ubisoft and Rayman. Never Thought I’d Write That Sentence Yesterday, the official Rayman Twitter account (which has made a name for itself with being shockingly real) capitalised on all the Vice City Collection backlash by comparing it to what Rayman Legends Retold is bringing to the table. The tweet starts with, “We might not have a Glade of Dreams Collection”, making it pretty clear what’s about to go down. From there, the post highlights Retold’s $40 Launch Edition, which comes with a Glade of Dreams map, three lithographs, an exclusive slipcase, and the final nail in GTA 6’s coffin, a copy of both Rayman Legends Retold and Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition. And yes, at least one of those is a physical copy. Since the tweet was shared, it’s gone pretty viral, with well over half a million views as of the time of writing. To be fair, one of the biggest upsides to Legends Retold is that it’s only $40 for what is essentially a completely remade and expanded game (that also includes the equally masterful Rayman Origins), so it’s in a good position to roast GTA 6. It’s especially notable considering Ubisoft doesn’t exactly have the best reputation when it comes to monetisation, as we see with every Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry game that launches with tons of microtransactions. Rayman is a rare exception to the rule, but it’s a damn good one that’s made its value very clear against one of gaming’s biggest franchises.
