Rayachoti set for major infrastructure push

Transport Minister Mandipalle Ramprasad Reddy performing bhumi Puja for the CC road project at Lakshmi Puram locality in Rayachoti in Annamayya district on Wednesday. | Photo Credit: ARRANGEMENT Rayachoti in Annamayya district is set for a major infrastructure push, with 68 civic works worth ₹10.84 crore launched across the municipal limits on Wednesday, in addition to projects worth ₹227 crore in the pipeline.Minister for Transport, Sports and Youth Services Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy performed bhumi puja for the works here, which include CC roads, drains and other basic infrastructure. The works would be executed with the 15th Finance Commission funds, LRS-BPS and Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) grants.Speaking to the media, the Minister said that a ₹35-crore project covering roads, parks, streetlights and central dividers was also being expedited, with the Andhra Pradesh Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation (APUFIDC) tender process expected to be completed by September 22.Meanwhile, a ₹125-crore project has been proposed to augment Rayachoti’s drinking water supply by laying a second pipeline from Veligallu dam. The proposal, currently under consideration for administrative approval, is designed to meet the town’s water requirements for the next 30 years, Mr. Ramprasad Reddy said.Another ₹44 crore has been sanctioned under UIDF for CC stormwater drains to address flooding and rainwater stagnation. A DPR has been submitted, and steps are being taken to initiate the tender process. A further ₹23-crore proposal for roads, drains and other urgent infrastructure is under consideration.Officials of the Roads and Buildings (R&B) and Rural Water Supply, Panchayat Raj and Revenue departments informed the Minister that ₹6.30 crore had been spent in Rayachoti in the past year on roads, drains, streetlights, water pipelines, parks, dividers, circle beautification and sanitation.“The government is adopting a phased approach to upgrade civic infrastructure, with priority to drinking water, drainage, roads and urban amenities.
