‘Ray Gunn’ Trailer: Netflix Adds Limited Theatrical Release For Brad Bird’s Sam Rockwell- & Scarlett Johansson-Voiced Animated Sci-Fi

Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for Brad Bird’s animated movie Ray Gunn, featuring Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson and Tom Waits in the voice cast, ahead of its previously announced launch on its platform December 18. Additionally, the streamer has revealed that the film will get a limited 70mm theatrical release in select theaters December 4. Set in Metropia, a gigantic city in an alternate future inhabited by aliens and humans as seen from a 1939 perspective, the film revolves around private eye Raymond Gunn (Rockwell), who is drawn into a case involving murder and a multimedia star named Venus Nova, voiced by Johansson. Speaking at works-in-progress presentation at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in July, Oscar-winning The Incredibles and Ratatouille director Bird recounted how the movie has been a 30-year-long passion project. Watch on Deadline Alongside the trailer reveal, Netflix unveiled voice cast additions of Alan Tudyk, Matt Berry, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Chernus, Kether Donohue, Michelle Rodriguez, Aasif Mandvi, Matt Jones, Kathryn Hunter, John Ratzenberger, Justin Peck and Patton Oswalt. The movie is a Netflix and Skydance Animation production, produced by John Lasseter, Bird, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Lisa Beroud. Watch the trailer above.
